I noticed two daddy long leg spiders in the corner of my room.
They were quite far away from each other to begin with, but somehow they got closer that night.
At the end they stick together. I think they must be mating.
The photo may be slightly disturbing but I found it quite interesting.
In fact, I went on and did some research on daddy long legs spider mating.
Last year summer,Summer and Nibs had a fight. It was not the first time they had fought but never had the situation been that serious.
The two rabbits were sold as girls in the pet shop and when I got home I realise they were both boys!!
I had them neutered after a few months and it seems that they love each other’s company. They were living in the same cage originally, but this was not a good idea. There were a few fights and both rabbits got injured when they were living in the same cage. We then bought another cage to separate them.
Then it went on fine for about 2 months. We let them out together for 5 minutes at beginning then gradually increased the time. But one day, we thought they were cleaning each other like they always do, all the sudden they started fighting and Summer pull Nibbles skin out.
We took him to the vets and they stitched the wound up. Nibs had to stay in the vet and had to be re-stitched the next day as he lived up to his name and bite all the stitches out.
That was where the cone came from. He was on an antibiotic (Baytril) and an anti-inflammatory (Metacam) for ten days.
Rabbits on cones are slightly different to other animals on cones.
Rabbit get very confused when they are wearing a cone. It is not very comfortable for their ears, particularly if they have long ears. Nibs was a bit scared of the cone at first but he became used to it. He still tried to remove it at every possible moment. In my other post, there are some advices for using cone on rabbits and things that need to be aware of when using a cone.
To see what happens to Nibbles later. Read the full story of Nibbles the rabbit on a cone.
Horses sleep while standing up.
Horses can sleep while standing because their bodies are completely relaxed. In fact it is better off for them to stand up than lying down. Horses have delicate bones and their body weighs a lot; they can get injured if they lay down for too long.
5 more interesting animal facts:
Hummingbirds are the only birds that can fly backwards.
Polar bears have black skin and their fur is not white.
Only the female mosquito bites.
Giraffes can clean their ears with its tongue.
Crocodiles can’t stick their tongues out, as it is attached by a membrane to the bottom of its mouth.
I had a hamster 2 years ago and I can tell he likes me as much as I like him.
I usually let him free run in my room. Of course the room was hamster proofed. Coshu (my hamster) would run around and sometime take a snap in the corner under the bed. But eventually he will get back to his cage and sleep. Sometime he would try to climb up to me and ask for attention.
Hamsters are great pet. The only downside is that their life is too short.
Here’s some basic info about hamster:
· Hamsters have short live spans
Hamsters live up to 2 years (if you are lucky, 2.5-3 years) so you will have to prepare yourself for eventual heartbreak. Due to the short lifespan, it is difficult to re-home a hamster. Consider carefully whether you can commit to give the hamster a good life before you buy any hamsters.
Do not buy a hamster if you don’t have the commitment. It is all too easy to leave them in a cage in the corner of the room and forget about them.
· Dwarf or Giant Breed?
Coshu is a Syrian hamster and I think it is an amazing breed. He doesn’t bite and he very well trained. He doesn’t pee outside of his cage and sometimes he would try to get your attention.
Golden hamsters or Syrian hamsters are better for children because they are easier to handle and they are more friendly. They also tend to be more responsive to people.
The other smaller breeds (Russian Campbell, Roborovski etc.) are more difficult to handle and sometimes they bite.
Depending on what you want from your hamster, you will have to consider which breed you prefer. Look here to know more about hamsters breeds.
Hamsters need plenty of exercise
Coshu used to spend hours running on his wheel. The worst thing is he only ran at night when everyone is sleeping. This could be quite noisy if you are using a cheap plastic wheel.
Hamsters may be small but wild hamsters travel long distances during night time to find food. It’s the same for your hamsters. Give your hamster an exercise wheel and be aware that they will get addictive to the wheel. So remember to fill up the water bottle regularly to make sure that your hamster does not run out of water.
Also get an exercise ball so you can let your hamster to run around inside the house. A hamster that sits in the cage all day is a very sad hamster.

Last year summer, I was looking for bees around the lavender flower by the pond near my house so that I can practice my camera skill. There is something particularly hard about focusing on a bee and taking a clean photo before it flies away! I’ve tried my best to identify them (hover over photos to see my ID guess), do let me know if I misidentified!
There are 250 species bees in the UK. Identifying bee species is not easy.
After taking some photos for the bees, I found something scary in the bush.
An orb weaver spider has caught a bee with its web and it was having its meal!
This really creeps me out but I just can’t resist to take a photo.
It was a nice mid-summer evening. Sun was shining and birds were singing…blah blah blah.
Anyway, I bought a new camera Nikon D3000 and I decided to use it on my rabbits.
It was the first time I use a DSLR camera and I am still trying to get a hang of it.
It was hard to capture the bunny in action when they are sprinting and binkying at light-speed. Still, I think I did a great job.
